I have had many emotional moments with patients over the years, and received many lovely gifts from patients who wanted to show their appreciation for my work. I am always deeply grateful for these acts of reciprocity, but this poem remains one of the most moving moments of my career.
This extremely touching poem was written for me by patient Wayne Ferrigan, who had an incurable disease. I diagnosed him very promptly, treated him very well and managed to give him some extra time, so he could live longer on “borrowed time” with his precious family.
